Quick Find
What it does
Quick Find is a lightweight popup overlay for fast bookmark search. It opens over whatever page you are on, searches as you type, and closes automatically after you open a result. No new tabs, no page load.
How to open Quick Find
Two ways:
- Click the TrueBookmark icon in your toolbar. If you do not see the icon, click the puzzle piece icon next to the address bar and pin TrueBookmark.
- Press the keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+K on Windows/Linux or Cmd+Shift+K on Mac.
Tip: You can change the keyboard shortcut at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. Find TrueBookmark and click the pencil icon to set your preferred key combination.
Searching bookmarks
- Open Quick Find.
- Start typing. Results appear after a short delay (200ms debounce for smooth typing).
- Results are matched against the bookmark title, URL, and folder path. You do not need to type an exact match. Fuzzy matching finds close results.
How results are ranked
Results are ranked by relevance (how closely the query matches) combined with a recency boost. Recently used or recently added bookmarks score higher when relevance is similar. Up to 15 results are shown at a time.
Navigating results
| Action | How |
|---|---|
| Move between results | Arrow Up / Arrow Down, or hover with your mouse |
| Open a bookmark | Click it, or press Enter. Opens in a new tab and closes the popup. |
| Expand a folder | Click on a folder result (shows a folder icon and child count), or select it and press Enter. The folder's direct bookmarks appear inline below it. |
| Collapse a folder | Click the expanded folder again or press Enter on it again. |
Folder results
When a folder matches your search, it appears with a folder icon and shows the number of bookmarks inside it (for example, "Folder with 12 bookmarks"). If the folder contains subfolders, the total count including subfolders is shown in parentheses.
Click a folder to expand it inline and see its direct bookmark children. You can then click any child bookmark to open it.
Status bar
Below the header, a green status bar shows your protection status: the age of your last backup and the total number of indexed bookmarks. For example: "Protected. Last backup: 3h ago. 1,247 bookmarks."
Header quick actions
The popup header contains icon buttons that open Manager tabs directly:
- History (clock icon) opens the History tab
- Backups (hard drive icon) opens the Backups tab
- Organize (broom icon) opens the Organize tab
- Help (question mark icon) opens this help center
Open Full Search
At the bottom of the popup, click "Open Full Search" to open the Manager's Bookmarks tab in a new tab. If you had a search query typed in Quick Find, it carries over to the Manager so you can continue your search with more screen space and additional tools.
Good to know
- Quick Find shows up to 15 results at a time. If you are looking for something specific and do not see it, try a more specific query or use Open Full Search for the full table view.
- The search index rebuilds automatically whenever you add, edit, move, or delete bookmarks. No manual refresh needed.
- If the keyboard shortcut does not work, another extension may be using the same combination. Go to chrome://extensions/shortcuts to check for conflicts and reassign.
- Quick Find does not work on Chrome internal pages (chrome://settings, chrome://extensions, etc.) or in the Chrome Web Store. This is a Chrome security restriction, not a TrueBookmark limitation.
