Getting Started

Install TrueBookmark

  1. Go to the Chrome Web Store listing and click Add to Chrome.
  2. Chrome will ask you to confirm. Click Add extension.
  3. TrueBookmark will create an initial backup of your bookmarks automatically. A welcome page opens to confirm everything is ready.

Privacy note: Your bookmarks never leave your device. TrueBookmark stores everything locally in your browser. No accounts, no cloud sync, no tracking.

Pin TrueBookmark to your toolbar

After install, the TrueBookmark icon may be hidden behind the puzzle piece menu. Pin it so it is always one click away.

  1. Click the puzzle piece icon next to the Chrome address bar.
  2. Find TrueBookmark in the list and click the pin icon next to it.
  3. The TrueBookmark icon now appears permanently in your toolbar.

Quick tour

TrueBookmark has two main interfaces: the popup (Quick Find) and the Manager (full-page app).

Popup (Quick Find)

A lightweight overlay that opens when you click the TrueBookmark icon or press Ctrl+Shift+K (Cmd+Shift+K on Mac). Use it for instant bookmark search. Results appear as you type.

Manager

A full-page app with four tabs: Bookmarks, History, Backups, and Organize. Open it from the popup footer ("Open Full Search") or from the popup header icons.

Each tab has its own detailed guide below.

Manager tabs

Bookmarks

Browse, filter, sort, and delete bookmarks in a table view. Supports multi-select with bulk delete, safety backup, and undo.

Bookmarks guide →

History

A chronological feed of every bookmark change: added, deleted, edited, moved. You can restore deleted items directly from the timeline.

History guide →

Backups

Create, preview, restore, export, and delete backups. Restores are non-destructive. They create a new folder without removing your existing bookmarks.

Organize

Find and remove duplicate bookmarks and empty folders. Review before deleting, with auto-select strategies and full undo support.

Keyboard shortcut

The default shortcut to open Quick Find is Ctrl+Shift+K on Windows/Linux and Cmd+Shift+K on Mac.

How to change the shortcut

  1. Go to chrome://extensions/shortcuts in your browser address bar.
  2. Find TrueBookmark in the list.
  3. Click the pencil icon next to the current shortcut and press your preferred key combination.

The welcome page

After install, TrueBookmark opens a welcome page once. It confirms your initial backup was created and shows your bookmark and folder counts. The page also explains the three core features: Quick Find, Backup and Restore, and Organize.

The welcome page only appears once. If you close it before reading, you can find the same information in this help center.
