How to Merge Bookmark Folders in Chrome
Chrome has no merge button, but you can combine folders cleanly in a few steps
Chrome has no "merge folders" button. You combine two folders by moving the contents of one into the other, then deleting the folder you emptied. It takes a minute in Bookmark Manager, and the only thing to watch for is the duplicates a merge can leave behind.
Merge folders by moving bookmarks
- Open Bookmark Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+O(Windows/Linux) orCmd+Option+B(macOS). - In the left sidebar, click the folder you want to merge from so its bookmarks show on the right.
- Click the first bookmark, then press
Ctrl+A(orCmd+A) to select all of them. - Drag the selection onto the destination folder in the left sidebar.
- Open the source folder again to confirm it is empty, then right-click it and choose Delete.
The bookmarks now live in the destination folder, and the empty folder is gone.
Merge using cut and paste
If dragging is awkward with a long list, you can cut and paste instead. Select the bookmarks, right-click and choose Cut, open the destination folder, right-click an empty area, and choose Paste. This is often steadier than dragging across a tall sidebar.
Handle the duplicates a merge creates
If both folders contained the same page, you now have two copies. Sort the combined folder by name using the three-dot menu's Sort by name option so identical entries sit together, then delete the extras. Merge nested subfolders
Moving a folder that contains subfolders moves the whole tree intact. If you want to flatten the structure instead, move the inner bookmarks up first, then delete the empty subfolders. Decide whether you want a flat folder or a nested one before you start, because undoing a large reorganization by hand is tedious.
